Welcome to Northumberland Scout County - the Cradle of Scouting
Northumberland Scout County covers the area from the Tyne to the Tweed, the coast to the Cumbrian border - incorporating Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
It was in August 1908 that BP held the first official Scout Camp at Humshaugh near Hexham. One hundred years later, Scouting across Northumberland provides challenging and adventurous activities for young people aged from 6 to 25 years guided and supported by large number of adults both uniformed and non-uniformed.
Through a structured and progressive programme of activities, young people are able to take part in a range of experiences from canoeing, abseiling and mountain biking to music, drama and the creative arts. The programme provides opportunities for all young people to have their achievements recognised through a range of awards. Supportive and comprehensive training is provided for all adults.
This year, Northumberland is celebrating the Centenary of Scouting within the County and is providing a special programme of events and activities. Details are shown elsewhere on the site - look at Northumberland Centenary 2008!
