We’re excited to officially announce the leadership team who will be guiding Northumberland Scouts Unit 53 to the World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) in Poland in 2027!
Our unit leaders bring a wealth of Scouting experience, energy, and commitment. They’re really looking forward to putting in place preparations for the exciting journey our WSJ unit will embark on – and planning is already well underway!
The World Scout Jamboree is a global gathering of Scouts and Guides from every corner of the world. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people to join thousands of others from around the world to build international friendships, discover new cultures, take part in an inspiring programme of activities and cultural exchange and create unforgettable memories!
The 26th World Scout Jamboree will take place from the 30 July to the 8 August 2027 and will be hosted in Gdańsk, Poland.
We’ll soon be looking for Scouts and Explorer Scouts to register their interest in representing Northumberland Scouts at the next Jamboree.
In the meantime, please join us in congratulating our unit leadership team! You can read more about the team below.

Laura, Unit Leader
“Hi, My name is Laura Bennett. I started guiding as a Brownie when I was 8 years old and I was fortunate to attend the World Scout Jamboree 1999 in Chile, as a Guide. I transferred over to Scouting about 8 years ago as I had a son, and have been a Beaver, Cub and Scout assistant leader over the years, in Lincolnshire, Paris with British Scouting Overseas and now here in Northumberland with 1st Alnmouth Sea Scouts. Now I am really looking forward to taking adults and young people to Poland in 2027!”
Chris, Deputy Unit Leader
“Hi everyone, my name is Chris Garland and as well as being part of the WSJ 27 leadership team for Northumberland I am also an Explorer Scout leader at The Three Bridges ESU and Scout leader at 2nd Berwick. I have been in Scouting since I was a Beaver Scout and worked my way through the sections. In my spare time I am also a volunteer on the Coastguard team in Berwick. I am really excited to be part of Northumberland’s Unit 53 for this WSJ and can’t wait to get this adventure started. One thing I’m most looking forward to at WSJ is taking part in activities with Scouts from all over the world.”
