Welcome to Wayne

We were delighted to welcome UK Chief Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt to Northumberland for what turned out to be an exceptional weekend!   Bringing the Channel Islands sunshine with him, Wayne accepted the County Commissioner's invitation to be our guest speaker at the County AGM on the Thursday evening when it was the turn of our adults to hear what the Association has in store for the next six years and to celebrate the achievements, service and contribution of the hundreds of people who have delivered yet another year of growth across our county.

Friday morning saw Wayne in conversation with the LookwideUK team, hearing from some of the young people themselves whose lives have been turned around because of their involvement with our development project. There is much interest in expanding our model across the UK and we look forward to 'watching this space'....

Walking in the Founder's footsteps, Wayne spent the afternoon at the Look Wide Cairn, seeing for himself the site of the first official Scout Camp in 1908. An evening in the company of the senior teams from Durham and Northumberland Scout Counties saw Wayne deeply engrossed in a fascinating question and answer session which provided a very interesting insight into both Wayne's own thinking and the direction in which the Association is heading under his guidance.

Saturday morning was spent in Seahouses at the invitation of District Commissioner Neil White. The buzz in North Northumberland, in the wake of Project Lindisfarne and the exciting plans which the District is hatching, could only impress Wayne as he took part in the young people's forum.

For many, the highlight of the weekend was the Chief Scout's Award presentation at Newcastle's Discovery Museum. One hundred and seventy five young people, supported by their families and leaders, received their awards personally from the Chief Commissioner, ranging from Bronze Awards for hard working Beaver Scouts to the coveted Queen's Scout Award.   What an afternoon!

Some of the smiling faces are on this small selection of the images captured over the weekend. Enjoy!
