Marralympics
So what can you and your groups expect form the next Marra?
The team have just had their first meeting and the basic framework is now in place we know the when the where and the what
Flyers and information will start to come out in the very near future, but the camp will follow a similar outline to our previous events,
but with the feedback and experience from the last one we hope to have made changes where the participants wanted to see them. So what's happening?
Where? Once again we will be heading to Beanley for the camp, the space means we can grow as a camp and let even more young people enjoy a Marra experience.
When?
A lot of the feedback from the participants last year was that the camp was great but they would have loved it to be a longer camp.
Well we've listened to that feedback and we're adding a whole extra day to Marra the next camp will run from
Friday 1st June Tuesday 5th June 2012.
Who? Marra as always is a Scout camp but we will be inviting members of Girlguiding UK to join us to share the experience. Many members of Northumberland County have enjoyed Marras over the years but the camp is open to Scouts and Guides far and wide, with the extra day at camp we're hoping that we will receive groups from further a field so if you have links to other units elsewhere in the country make sure you spread the Marra word!
The camp is open to all Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Network, Explorers and Rangers, and we will also welcome groups of Beavers, Rainbows, Cubs and Brownies to join us as day visitors. Booking forms for both will appear very soon.
In addition to those coming as participants we are also searching for staff to help us run the event. Anyone 16 years+ (including members of the Senior Sections!) can apply to join the Marra staff team. No experience is necessary that's what the camp is for, but if you would like to see what a camp is like from the other side of the table give staff a go. We're looking for all kinds of skills and interests from running activities, crafts, cleaning up around site, working in the shops and offices, security, marshalling as well as set up and take down teams. If you're unsure a staff link will appear on the website soon, drop any questions or concerns to the Marra team who will be more than happy to answer them. A staff form will also be available to register and join the staff team.
What? Marra as always needs a theme, the core idea that the camp itself is built around...... As the next camp is taking place just before the London 2012 Olympic Games where teams from around the world come together to prove their athletic prowess, it seems logical that Marra should follow suit, therefore MARRALYMPICS '12 is born! Our very own twist on the longest running competition known to man!
What else?
More information will be available very soon, watch County News and the website for more info. In the mean time why not join us on facebook:
