About Marra
Marra camps are based on the Caud Marra (Cold and Utterly Daft Friends) camp which is/was a winter activities camp held in February that is all about fun, adventure and meeting new friends. The first Marra camp was held by Benton District with John Devine running the camp. Since then Northumberland County have developed the Marra theme into lots of winter camps which were held at Gosforth Park Scout Camp. Since the closure of Gosforth Park Scout Camp the Marra camp ended and then was restarted in 2005 and now continues.
Marra has now developed into a theme for the Northumberland County Camps with a change from the usual winter camp in 2008 to celebrate Northumberland's Centenary. This camp was called Lookwide Marra and was held as per the original Marra camps in Gosforth Park attracting over 1000 young people. This was followed by an even bigger camp in 2010 which saw 1400 participants head to Beanley in Northumberland for a Medieval themed camp. So now two years on Marra is back, and a camp in 2012 could only really have one theme -
